Choosing a programme

Getting a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) specialising in either mechanical or mechatronics engineering is accredited by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand, making it an internationally recognised qualification in many overseas countries.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is the innovative application of science and technology to the design, production and operation of mechanical devices, machinery and systems. Mechanical engineers are good at designing things, especially complex items like racing yachts, robots, sawmills and aeroplanes. This degree specialisation is accredited by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ), which means that it is recognised overseas.

Mechatronics Engineering

Mechatronics engineers integrate electronic devices with mechanical design and information technology.  Mechatronics engineers are familiar with the concurrent rather than sequential design process. They work in and coordinate teams of different engineering disciplines.  This degree specialisation is accredited by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ), which means that it is recognised overseas.
