Sole best conference paper awarded to 'Swallowing Robotics' project

During the 2nd International Conference on Robot Intelligence Technology and Applications (RiTA2013) in Denver, USA, held between 18-20 December 2013, the research paper entitled "Design and Fabrication of a Soft Actuator for a Swallowing Robot” by Professor Peter Xu and his PhD students, Steven Dirven and Feijiao Chen won the only Best Conference Paper Award.

Professor Xu is leading a multi-disciplinary team to develop a soft-bodied robotic swallowing instrument for evaluation of dysphagia and its intervention. This paper presents some of their latest research results.

The new research initiative of swallowing robotics is sponsored by the Riddet Institute and the University of Auckland's Faculty Research Development Fund (FDRF).
